Looking after yourself; Something that we all like to remind other people to do but we never remember to do it for ourselves.

|Gifted|In the past few months this has been a real focus of mine. I have been super busy, but it is at super busy times that you sometimes need to extra check back in with yourself otherwise everything starts to crumble. I have found that for me fitness and well-being go hand in hand. I know that if I don’t keep my body moving then my wellbeing takes a tumble soon after. If I keep myself active, then I am a much better person to be around. If you follow me, you have probably seen that I have been getting into running and have found that it is a slot of my day where I don’t worry about 99 things at once. Yes, I admit sometimes getting out to do exercise is the last thing you want to do when you finally get home but I have felt so much more energized because I have gone out. I also recently purchased a Fit Bit which has also been a great encouragement to get off my bottom whist sitting at work.

Yoga: I have always kind of dabbled in Yoga and I really enjoy it. It’s great if you want a low intensity activity, which you can switch off to yoga is the one. If you’re a yoga newby I would take a look at Yoga with Adriene on YouTube. She has loads of great beginner videos you can follow along to at home. Most of the time I just freestyle and go with my own little flow and try to add in some stretches and Ab strengthening work at the same time. If you follow me over on Instagram, you hopefully have seen some of my Yoga time-lapse clips in stories or on my feed. Below is a little time lapse of my most recent flow, this was a very simple one. I find starting with a few deep breaths gets me nice and centred before I go onto more flowing move throughs. 

Surrounding yourself with happy: Now this may sound like a strange one, but I do think it’s a massive help. By surrounding yourself in negative things all of the negativity starts to pull you down. Surround yourself in happiness and it has such a positive effect on everything. Bath: A long soak in a bubbly tub. Need I really say more? Having a bath for a minimum of 10 minutes is one thing that I have really been using in the past few months. I just find it a nice chill out before bed. I have been sometimes been popping my laptop on top of the closed toilet seat and keeping up with Stranger Things 3 or sticking on a study video which is multi-tasking at its finest! 

Thanks for taking a look. These are just a few things I have been focusing in the past few months to keep myself on top form and happy.

  1. I love yoga and love yoga with Adrienne! She has helped me so much not only with yoga but even my self confidence. I love the shirt by the way and you move so gracefully with yoga! I hope I can get there soon!

  2. I love hot yoga! Its the best because it kinda forces you to be present and your body really engages. It can honestly be so tempting to surround myself with negativity because ‘misery loves company’ and positivity can feel almost crude but you really do need that energy to lift you out of your funk and push you to feel and do things that make it seem less hopeless. A bath is probably the most benign form of a human reboot which is so necessary. Glad that you shared these!

  3. I love Yoga With Adriene – I only really stuck to yoga after following her videos. I might try creating my own flows as well – I tend to get stuck in my head and think I’m not good enough to do it on my own (which is probably counterintuitive!)

    The Jesmundo tee is really cute as well, I’ll have to check them out xx

    I think I'm the only person to not have tried Yoga with Adrienne but I am in love with the TrackYoga app – the earning points to unlock more flows by doing yoga has helped to motivate me and I don't find the voice annoying (which I so often do)..

    When I'm away from home I get into quite a nice routine of having a bath in the evening, then a snack, meds and yoga before bed… I wish I could translate that routine back to home. Even if just routinely doing the bedtime yoga flow.

  5. It is so important that we take care of our bodies. It is great that you have been focusing on yourself lately. We need to take care of ourselves first before being able to focus on other things. I love these wellness activities you do! Nice baths are the best! 🙂

There’s something calming about the stillness. I will definitely check out the YouTube channel you mentioned, seeing as I don’t take professional classes, but do everything from home (so I live for tutorials). I was wondering what kind of music you listen to when you do yoga? Great post xx

  7. Love the t-shirt! I really want to get into Yoga but I find it hard to start new hobbies as I always feel like I am failing at them, even though I know everyone has to start somewhere. xx

  9. I like doing yoga when I am in need of a good stretch, and Adriene’s videos are great for that! I don’t really find it relaxes me, but I do feel good after. I love having baths! Putting on a video on my iPad, and just chilling away. I like to have mine in the morning though, I sometimes feel too hot if I have one at night.

  10. Physical activity indeed – running does it for me too. But also I find that if you can develop a positive mindset generally, ignore the habitual moaners and grumblers, see the positives in life, have a laugh, you’ll feel way better in yourself.

  11. You’ve inspired me to watch Yoga with Adriene, hadn’t heard of her before! I love yoga, and usually incorporate it into my workouts as a warm-up. I’ve had a bad knee for a few years, and after my injury I couldn’t even bend down! Doing small exercises and discovering yoga has helped me to re-build muscle and keep my body flexible, which also stops my knee becoming stiff and sore. Great post x
