I qualified with my Sports Massage qualification in December and since beginning my business CR Sports Massage Therapy I always get similar questions about Sports Massage. To find out more about my massage work make sure you check out my Instagram @crsportsmassage or the rest of my socials at the bottom of this post.
What is sports massage?: Unlike your normal relaxing holistic massage with scented candles and incenses, sports massage targets the bodies soft tissue such as fascia, muscles, tendons and ligaments. By targeting these specific groups of tissues therapists can release stressed and tense muscles, increase their range of moment, increase blood flow and help stretch and return them to their normal function.
You don’t have to be sporty to benefit: Just because you don’t play sport doesn’t mean that you can’t benefit from sports massage and fascial release. Sitting at a desk at your office job, standing with poor posture or general aches and pains can also create tight muscles and a build-up of fascia that will respond well to massage.
What happens on the inside: Massage is not only a massive release on your muscles but also a huge release on the rest of your body including the lymphatic system. The lymphatic systems job is to filter out all of the waste products from the blood. When you massage tight muscles, they release lots of built up fluid that is then collected up by the lymphatic system. This is why we encourage clients to have a big drink after a massage as the bodies fluid movement is increased.
Injury & Recovery: Sports massage can reduce the risk of injury as well as aiding injury recovery and increase mobility of muscles. Pre and Post event massage can also reduce muscle recovery time, helping prevent a big onset of DOMS (Delayed onset muscle soreness).
So, there you go there are a few questions answered. If you have anymore make sure you drop them into the comments below.

I’m so glad you didn’t delete your blog, Chloe! Congrats on completing your qualification and starting your massage business – that’s amazing! I’ve never had a sports massage but since I’ve started exercising a LOT more, I’ve definitely felt it. Like today, my muscles in my shoulders and upper back are KILLING me. So I’d definitely like to give one a try, they sound so beneficial! xxx
