Always fancied giving yoga a go? Why not take a look at my beginner flow…
I find that getting onto my yoga mat and doing even a little bit of a flow chills me out, it gives me a chance to reconnect my breath and get my body moving which always improves my mood. I am fully aware that for a beginner yoga can look a tiny bit intimidating. For me, although it may appear like it, it is not about instagram worthy trick shots (even if they do look cool). Sometimes you just have to check in with yourself, breathe and move the way your body wants and needs to. This flow I have made below you can take at your own pace and is a super easy one to follow and really concentrates on breathing. This lasted for around 15 minutes as I did have a play with some tricks on the end. Take look at the time lapse video and the breakdown of movements below…
- Breathings through heart centre- keep those inhales and exhales big, add in arm circles to check in where your body is today.
- Roll downs and flat backs– Keeping that head heavy roll down through each section of your spine. Why not have a play around and add some twists in.
- Warrior to Chair– Stepping out into warrior, this is a strong pose feel the floor with those feet and move into chair position again keep it steady and find a nice flat back. I added in some arm circles and roll downs to this section too.
- To the Floor- Have a play around with planks, cobras, child’s pose (my favourite) and downwards dog. Try rolling from one to the other as smoothly as you can.
- Are you still breathing?
- Lunges- Find that long lunge and take a few breaths, if you want to advance this take that back knee to the floor. Why not add in some openings if your feeling stable?
- Pigeon- Keeping the front leg at a 90 degree angle, this is a great hip opener and stretch. If your not feeling any stretch drop that head to the floor.
- Tree- After rolling and making your way to standing, find your tree position. Make it more difficult by adding in an arch and taking those hands to the ceiling.
- After a few more long breaths, it’s play time! Go back and repeat anything you liked, or if something felt tight this is a great chance to give it a stretch. I am trying to work towards crow pose and getting my middle splits back, which you can see at the end of the video.
Feel free to follow along or make it your own, as long as you keep with the breath and take the time to yourself away from technology and worrying about things you can’t control for a while.
Let me know in the comments if you try any of these out. As always you can keep up to date with me on my socials below.
Thanks,
Chloe.
Will have to give this a go! It sounds so calming ✨ Last year I had a thing about Pilates and this year I started meditating so maybe yoga will meet inbetween and be a habit that actually sticks 😂 Great post! 💕

I’ve been loving doing Yoga recently since been confined to my home. I never pegged myself as someone who would enjoy it but it really has quickly become a favourite for the month

This is great, I’ve tried yoga a few times but I’ve never found a beginner routine that didn’t bore me. I prefer the kind of yoga that’s a little more active and requires some flexibility rather than basic stretches and breathing. This seems like a nice happy medium x

I will definitely be giving this a go sometime soon. I’ve recently bought myself a yoga mat but I’ve been too nervous to get it out and actually start. Hopefully reading this has given me that final push to get started. Look forward to reading more from you on this topic 🙂

I’ve been doing Yoga both at the gym and at home regularly for 6 months now and gotten so much out of it. Warriors 1 and 2, downward and upward facing dogs are my favourite stretches so it’s cool seeing them a part of your routine too. Also thanks for sharing your Yoga routine with us 🙂

This was pretty helpful. I started my practise today and just wrote a blog on Surya namaskaram or sun salutations practised here in India, maybe it helps you out.
